“The weekend started out with some tough luck in the buggys. The first class was E-Buggy, that was rough, I was running well and was on my way to a TQ but the battery straps snapped with a hard landing off a table top.

The second class I ran was truggy which ram flawless as always. After the resort I was able to TQ E-Buggy by ten seconds with a few mistakes. In Truggy we ran into motor issues and had a DNF in that round. In Nitro buggy I ran out of gas with a new motor but yet was able to salvage a second. In the third round I swept all three TQ’s putting me on the pole in E-Buggy and truggy and 5 in Nitro Buggy.

When mains arrived on Sunday I ran into over heat issues in E-Buggy and finished second in both A mains with no issues in the 2nd main except for my mistakes. In Truggy I ran clean and finished almost 4 laps up on 2nd with no motor issues compared to qualifying. In Nitro Buggy I quickly got up to 2nd and was settling in when on the 2nd pots at 12 minutes I ran out of fuel with a new motor. During that pit we switched a rear tire out and ran the rest of the race fighting two front tires coming off and finished 5 seconds back from the leader.”

“Made the trip to Longmont for the Nitro in the Rockies. Had the best racing weekend to date. Entered 4 classes. 1/8 E Buggy, E Truggy, Nitro Truggy and Pro 4 sc.

Qualifying went great. TQ in Pro4, 2nd E Buggy in the biggest class with 46 entries. 3rd in E Truggy and 4th in Nitro Truggy.

Mains were even better. my Tekno’s were dialed and AKA tires hooked. Won 1st A1 in both E Truggy and Pro4 and 2nd in E Buggy. Had a slow start in Nitro Truggy dropped to 10th. Fought hard to get all the way back to 4th. Only 2 pits spots going 10+ minutes per tank and the my awesome pit crew from Aaron Conkey and Daniel Hawken getting me in and out faster than anyone else and very pleased with a 4th just missing the podium.  A2 started with allow drizzle making the track very slick but managed to win the Pro4 sc to clinch, 2nd in E Truggy and 3rd in E Buggy. A3 after it stopped raining decided to change tires from AKA gridirons to I Beams, and it came down to a 10 minute race to see who would win the E Truggy. After following Stewart Holmes for 9 minutes I jumped over him on the front triple and made it to the finish just in front of him. E Buggy I was 3rd behind Lenard and Braxton Morgan and was 2nd overall

The event was hosted by John Martin and Heather Martin and they put on a great event on a nice track built by Joey Wolters Christensen.”

“This weekend I attended the first annual carolina classic held at Sumter R/C Raceway in Sumter, South Carolina. The original plan was a two day event but the crew decided to make it a one day once the threat of a tropical storm came for late saturday/sunday. It rained on and off most of the day but we did manage to get all the racing in! I want to mention how kind and welcoming the entire crew at Sumter R/C is. It is a true southern hospitality environment and that alone will keep me coming back to this facility again and again!

Ok, on to the racing…The first class I ran was pro nitro buggy. Some heavy hitters from the area were here such as Team Mugen Seiki’s Evan Vail, Colby Bush and Bobby Moore. We also had my Tekno teammate Austin Odum who is getting very fast very quickly (must be the 5 classes he races every weekend lol!) I qualified 4th only about 6-8 seconds from the TQ. The start of the race i made quick moves to 2nd and Colby Bush and I would run away with it putting a nice gap on the field early. Colby unfortunately had some radio issues and would have to retire from the race. I would end up putting everyone but 2nd place Evan Vail a lap down. It felt great!

Pro truggy i got the TQ and the start of the 20 minute main was going great. I had opened up a comfortable lead over the field until my engine started to run lean (temps outside had dropped a lot). It ended up flaming out and popping a glow plug. Thanks to my brother and Sam Bush (Colbys Dad) for quickly getting my truck and changing the glow plug out. They had to also richen my top end needle 6 hrs. Once that was done, the truck was on rails again and I was on a mission of damage control because of the flameout. I put my head down and put in solid fast laps until the finish and would come back to 2nd place!”

100 Endurance Team Race (Dubai), report by Rudy Khoubbieh:

“I attended a special event held at Binona Rc consisting of a 100 minutes race split between 2 drivers/ 2 cars per team ( teams selected randomly by the organisers).

I teamed up with Joey Ariston and we managed to put a good plan for race and a fast way to switch positions (driving/pitting) since we had to change every 15 min as per the rules. Joey took the TQ for the team and I started the race in the 1st position. Had few battles in the first 15 minutes then we started to slowly build a small advantage. Both cars were perfect we faced zero problems, my car setup was great, Ryan Lutz setup helped me to put some good laps and finaly we secured the win after 1h 40 min of racing !”

FTM Championships (USA), report by Wil Alameida:

“This race was the 2016 FTM championships. I managed to run three classes and for whatever reason this was a very interesting weekend for me.

Day one:

We started off Saturday with three qualifiers and for Truggy I was doing very well.  Was able to secure the top qualifier position all three qualifiers. The truck was handling incredibly well and it was very easy to clear all the huge jumps the track had offer. I personally think that the truck has a mind of its own. This thing just devours fast laps!

4 Wheel Dr. short course was an absolute treat. I managed to finish all three qualifiers in the first position securing the TQ, and with a couple very subtle changes I was able to make the truck even easier to drive, and very consistent.

Day two:

We finished off the last day of racing with an additional two qualifiers, and the mains. I was sitting on the pole for both truggy and short course, and was looking straight ahead at solidifying the win. However, second qualifier for the day would be what really tested every ounce of patients and our ability to concentrate under high stress levels. I managed to burn up my truck motor and also had a completely dead speed controller in the buggy. Luckily I had a great friends who had a spare motor and ESC and was able to install both of those right before the mains. Of course, I couldn’t leave out the short course truck from all the excitement. So my beautifully painted bodies have definitely seen their prime come and go and I was yet again forced to be on a frantic search for a short course body I could run. Luckily the very generous track owner Garland Smith had a pro line blockbuster body, which is a body specifically designed to mount a go pro camera on top of the truck. So, hopefully we can see some on board racing in the near future.

The truck Maine was up next, and I would be starting in the second position. The race started off great as far as how truck mains sometimes start. 😉 I would have an absolutely amazing run. Leader for the first couple laps had a bad tumble and probably a little bit longer than desired Marshal service. That would leave me to a perfectly clear track ahead and I would secure this race with a very solid lead over the rest of the field.

FWD short course would be my last Maine, and starting on the pole with this class was nice since I had nothing but clear track. About halfway through the main I had a very talented JD Blair and Kyle Loy in hot pursuit. All three of us would toss the lead back-and-forth with very clean passing! I would finish last on the podium.”

“The “Campeonato Interno CRCSC” Round 4 was raced this may 28th in Santa Cruz de la Sierra – Bolivia. The layout was changed for this round and no one was able to practice the new layout before the race so it was a real test for skill.

Classes ran were Nitro Buggy, E Buggy and E Truggy. I raced Nitro Buggy and E Buggy. The weather was very cold so all nitro drivers had to re-tune engines accordingly. Qualifiers were 5 minutes for all classes, I got TQ in Nitro Buggy and nitro mains were 20 minutes long while EP Mains were 7 minutes long.”

JConcepts 8th Scale National (USA), report by Allan Smith:

“I arrived at the Hobby Plex on Friday around 10am. Practice started off great and the track was a nice flowing high-traction clay type surface. My SCT410 .3 and EB48.3 felt great with Proline MC Electrons. I ran quite a few practice sessions making small adjustments making my cars easier to drive. At the end of practice I felt confident I was in good shape to take a podium position.

Saturday consisted of three qualifiers and first up was E buggy being one of the biggest classes there. I put down some solid runs placing me 7th starting in the A main. I also made some solid runs in pro 4 getting me TQ. Sunday was main day, tripple A mains for E buggy and Pro 4. After all the mains were in and done I was 7th overall in E buggy and first overall in Pro 4. It was a great weekend of racing. Thanks to Alex Sturgeon for running a flawless race and making everyone feel welcome.”

Memorial Day Shoutout (USA), report by Mason Eppley:

“Had a great time at the Memorial Day Shootout at CVR Raceway! I decided to run my Tekno NB48.3 nitro buggy and EB48.3 electric buggy. I would arrive at the track Friday afternoon for some practice, with how similar the track conditions were to my home track, I ended up not having to change a single thing for the setups.

I would have some good luck in qualifying taking the TQ in ebuggy and starting 2nd in the pro nitro buggy main. I would choose the wrong tires for the ebuggy main, making the buggy hard to drive. I would finish 2nd right behind Phillip Atondo. Now knowing what not to run in nitro, I made a good decision on tires. I would have a good start and almost had a flawless race, I would take the win. Overall it was great day of racing! Not to mention I’m pretty happy with my results and it’s good knowing that my hardwork is paying off. Once again a huge thanks to my sponsors, Tekno RC, Proline, Tekin, Triton, Byrons Fuels, Schelle, Amain, Protek, 92zero Designs, LFR, RAD RC Painting, Hooked, and All Around RC.”

“Every Memorial Day weekend since 1986 racers from all over the Northwest make their way to Spokane, Washington for the Hank Parry 240. It is also round 2 of the Northwest Championship Tour. This years event was exceptional with 280 entries from 2wd Mod Buggies to 1/8 Nitro Buggies. I ran Open Electric Buggy and Pro4 SC.

Open Ebuggy: Qualifying went really well as I finished third in Q1 and drove a flawless run to TQ in Q2. In Q3 I knew I had the speed to take overall TQ but I made a mistake near the end of the run and it cost me. I would line up 2nd on the grid for the triple 10 minute A-mains. In A1 I took the lead on lap one and had my eyes set on the win. I got caught up with a lapped car and lost the lead only to get it back with 2 minutes to go and I drove on to take the win. A2 was an intense battle with HB driver Nick Buechler. He made one less mistake and took the win. A3 would settle it all. I took the lead at the halfway point from Nick and never looked back to take the overall win!

Pro4 SC: Teammate Jesse Munn and I always have great battles in this class and this race was no exception. Jesse drove awesome in qualifying TQ’ing the first two rounds to take overall TQ. I TQ’d the third round to line up 2nd on the grid for the triple A-mains. In A1 Jesse made a mistake on lap 2 granting me the lead and I never looked back. A2 Jesse and I had our best bumper to bumper battle yet. I got the lead after a small mistake by Jesse and I was able to hold him off to take the overall win! Jason McCarty drove his SCT410.3 to make it a Tekno sweep! Awesome results at the 30th Annual Hank Perry 240! Longest running outdoor race in the USA!”

30th Annual Hank Perry 240 Race (USA), report by Jesse Munn:

“Round 2 of the Northwest Championship Tour was held this past weekend at the 30th Annual Hank Perry 240 in Spokane, Washington. The RC Car Club of Spokane built a great track that flowed well, stayed consistent, and provided really close racing. The surface was hard packed dirt and while it was a little loose at first, the traction really came up as the weekend progressed.

My Tekno NT48.3 was great all weekend! I ran the same exact setup as the previous NCT that was ran on a much different Wenatchee track and the truck performed flawlessly once again. In the first 2 rounds of qualifying I took a couple of comfortable TQ’s, clearing 2nd place by 12 seconds in the first round and 16 seconds in the second round to wrap up the overall TQ for the weekend. AKA soft Gridirons were my tire of choice and I was able to run the same set for both qualifiers.

The 30 minute main went great as well. After battling with Kyosho’s Tayler Wonders over the first half of the race, I managed to pull away a bit in the last 15 minutes to take the win! By Sunday afternoon, the track had really grooved up and tire wear was getting extreme in all classes. I decided to mount up a set of the newly released AKA soft long wear Gridirons and they were perfect. I think they would have lasted for a full hour long main. As for the Ultimate M5 engine… If you haven’t tried one, you need to.”
